40 days for life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:

![]() On September 15th, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, a Holy Hour was held in honor of our Patroness of Council #16137: Mother of Sorrows. Our Chaplain Father Edward J. Janoch presided in what was a beautiful hour of prayer and reflection. Besides being our Council’s Patroness, the Mother of Sorrows was also a devotion that was held by parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo Parish starting with World War II and ending around the time of the Second Vatican Council. The Mother of Sorrows was invoked to guide the many parishioners who were thrown into sorrow by the injuries, death and destruction that is cause by war and by the uncertainties that war brings. The Holy Hour began with the 7:00 p.m. Mass that was well attended by not only the Knights, but also by a number of parishioners. The Rosary of the Seven Sorrows was led by Father Janoch and prayed by the congregation. The Litany of Loreto was also prayed. The Holy Hour was concluded by the traditional Eucharistic Benediction. In conjunction with the Council at St. Hilary’s in Fairlawn, the St. Charles Borromeo Knights have been helping Sister Denise Marie Vlna renovate and move into her new home to begin the initial steps for the new religious community she is striving to establish: “Franciscans of the Little Way.” Her new residence will be in what the parishioners at St. Hilary’s call their “old rectory.” The Knights from both St. Charles and St. Hilary councils painted and moved furniture into the building where she and three other young ladies will be praying and living in community together. This “house of discernment” for these women will assist them in discovering God’s vocational path for them. The Knights wish them all the best, and stand ready to assist in any way we can. In Conjunction with the State Council, Knights are now selling Football Frenzy sweepstakes fundraiser tickets. Each ticket has ten chances to win on it, and it is based on the scores that the four teams on your ticket for that week add up to. There is a total of $1000 in weekly prizes available. Part of the proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit our council's operating fund. See a Knight for tickets, or visit the rectory!
